Board of Trustees

The trustees meet the second Tuesday of each month to discuss the physical well being, the needs, and the care of the church property.

The year began with an unpleasant surprise when the heating system of the sanctuary froze. Fortunately the damage was minimal and we were soon back in business.

The major project for the year was the resurfacing of the church parking lot and the addition of rubble to the back lot. Unfortunately the "experts" from the company who outlined the lot were off by about 20 feet. Our plan is to remedy that problem in the year 2000.

Other tasks to be considered in the year ahead:

  • Repairing the storm windows on the west side of the church
  • Building a storage room in the room next to the kitchen
  • Consider erecting a shed for the church equipment in the garage to allow the garage to be used fully for August sale stuff
  • Carpeting the sanctuary and possibly painting of the sanctuary.
  • Repositioning the pews in the center section of the sanctuary to provide more leg room.

News on the Korkay

Site Through our Assemblyman, Marc Butler we learned that there is indeed some toxic waste in the ground as was suspected. The current solution is to pump air into the ground and collect it and pass it through filters which remove the toxic substance. It is proposed that it will take 2 ½ to 5 years to complete the cleanup. This means that the earliest the property will become available is 2004 -2005.

It is our view that by that time the tax burden will be too great for us to pay the taxes to acquire the property. The current tax burden is over $25,000 and when you add the growth of interest and taxes on the property over the next five years the amount due will probably be closer to $50,000.

Our plan is to wait for the property to be auctioned off by the county and to be an active bidder at that time.
